‘I’m going to’: £11m Nottingham Forest player sends message to Nuno after Steve Cooper regularly ignored him

Nottingham Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele was linked with a move away from the City Ground in the January transfer window.

Andrew Omobamidele joined Nottingham Forest from Norwich City in the summer of 2023. Forest paid Norwich £11 million (The Athletic) in transfer fees to secure the services of the 21-year-old Republic of Ireland international central defender.

On January 2, The Daily Mail journalist Tom Collomosse reported that Omobamidele was one of the players who could leave Forest in the January transfer window.

Omobamidele had not made a single appearance in the Premier League under then manager Steve Cooper. He has made four starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League under Nuno.

And, as you can see below, the defender is pleased to be playing for Forest and is happy to do his best every time he gets the chance to play under manager Nuno.

Andrew Omobamidele sends message to Nottingham Forest manager Nuno
Omobamidele said on the Shut Up and Show More Football podcast: “My uncle, my mum’s brother Martin, he’s a die-hard Forest fan.

”I remember, when I used to stay at my grandparent’s house, I would stay in his room and it would just be covered in old Forest shirts, some of the players, some of the trophies and just pictures.

“It’s mad how the world works. Obviously I wasn’t thinking about it too much at the time, but obviously now I play for Forest. It’s kind of like the stars aligned, in that sense.”

The defender added: ”I’m enjoying and loving every minute of it. I’m loving the challenge and all I really wanted was the opportunity to play. I’m a realistic person and I know you need to work for what you get, there’s no such thing as handouts.

“I’m happy the boss has given me the chance to play and, every time he gives me the chance, I’m going to try my best.”

My View: Andrew Omobamidele could succeed at Nottingham Forest

In my opinion, Andrew Omobamidele could be a success at Nottingham Forest in the long run.

Yes, Omobamidele has not had the best of times at the City Ground so far, but he is only 21 now. He is just starting his career.

It was always going to be hard for the Republic of Ireland international centre-back to play week in and week out for Forest.

But, I understand that it must be disappointing for the youngster to be a peripheral figure at Forest, but he has to be patient.

Forest are a big club, and I believe that Omobamidele will get his chances on a regular basis at some point in the future.
