Bruno Guimaraes message Newcastle United fans amid injury concern

Bruno Guimaraes hailed Newcastle United as a team that “never gives up” following their 2-1 comeback victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Magpies moved up to third in the Premier League table after claiming a third win from four – but they did it the hard way in the Black County.

Eddie Howe’s side made a positive start to the game but surrendered control in the 36th minute when Jorgen Strand Larsen outmuscled Dan Burn down the left and his low cross was cleverly dummied by Joao Gomes and tapped home by Mario Lemina.

Unhappy with what he witnessed, Howe made a triple substitution at half-time. Alexander Isak for Harvey Barnes was enforced but both Sean Longstaff and Joelinton were hooked for Sandro Tonali and Joe Willock.

It wasn’t until the 75th minute when Newcastle levelled, and it came with a major hint of fortune when Fabian Schar’s long distance shot deflected off Craig Dawson and over goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

There was, however, no luck surrounding Harvey Barnes’ winner five minutes later as the winger cut inside before superbly curling his shot into the top right corner

Still, Howe’s men had to dig deep in the closing stages to see out a victory. Bruno Guimaraes rolled his ankle and needed to be replaced. It meant when Lewis Hall pulled up with cramp, no subs were left and the left-back had a brief cameo as a centre-forward

“Victory for the team that never gives up!!!! Always for you, NUFC,” captain Guimaraes wrote on social media. Let’s keep going, guys! What a comeback.”

Newcastle have made their best start to a Premier League season since 1995-96 under Kevin Keegan. Next up is another away game, this time at Fulham on Saturday, and Guimaraes will be hoping to shake off his ankle knock.
