Leicester planning record bid to sign playmaker on first week of January

According to reports, Leicester City plans to pursue Matt O’Riley during the January transfer window that opens next month.

Last summer, a number of teams, including Championship rivals Leeds, expressed interest in signing the highly sought-after Celtic player.

Nevertheless, no deal happened, but the interest is still there as Team Talk reports that Leeds, Newcastle, and now Leicester City are considering moves during the January transfer window.

O’Riley recently inked a new deal, and it’s said that Celtic placed a ÂŁ25 million price tag on the 23-year-old.

Should it be sold, it would equal the highest price ever paid in the Scottish league, which Arsenal spent for Kieran Tierney in August of 2019.

Given the high asking price, a Premier League team may decide to put Leeds and Leicester aside while they battle it out in the Championship.

It is said that both teams will wait it out in the hopes of getting O’Riley during the summer transfer window if they are unable to come to an agreement for the dynamic midfield player by the end of next month.

However, the Danish international could already be gone by then because teams like Newcastle are interested in him.
