‘I’d say’… Shay Given says how many penalties he thinks Nottingham Forest should have had vs Everton

Shay Given has delivered his verdict on how many penalties he thinks Nottingham Forest should have had at the weekend against Everton.

Well, another day and another pundit weighing into the situation – and it appears the former Newcastle goalkeeper is on Forest’s side.

He doesn’t condone the questioning of the integrity of Attwell but it would appear that he understands the club’s gripes.

Given told The Monday Night Club: “There are statements dropping like confetti from all sorts of parties over the past day or so after a very important game.

“If you want to isolate the three penalties, I’d have to say they have a strong case for all three: the first guy has been clipped, the second one sees Ashley Young clearly move his hand towards the ball and the third one he’s tackled from behind.

“If you’re looking at that from a football perspective there is a strong case that all three should have been given.”

Ultimately, there is absolutely nothing that can be done about this situation now and Forest have to keep fighting on the pitch.

As Given said later in the interview, the game can’t be replayed and those three points have now gone from a Forest perspective.

All the Reds can do is park their feelings of unjust and use it to spur them on to claim some more points this season.

If Forest could produce a positive display against Manchester City and then head to Sheffield United the week after feeling positive, things could look rosier.

Ultimately, the VAR has once again let Forest down here and it’s good to hear Given speak without an agenda – with other pundits seemingly unable to do so.

Forest must keep going and they can’t throw the towel in on their fight for Premier League survival.
