Alan Shearer and Micah Richards deliver verdicts on statement released by Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest were beaten by Everton yesterday and now two Match of the Day pundits have shared their verdicts on a club statement released afterwards.

It was another day of controversy for the football club in the Premier League. The Reds went down 2-0 after goals by Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil gave Everton daylight from the relegation zone.

Forest aren’t so lucky and they remain just a point ahead of Luton in the Premier League. As a result, things are very precarious right now for Nuno Espirito Santo.

Yesterday’s game was marred by some more shambolic refereeing. The on-field man Anthony Taylor and VAR Stuart Attwell had shocking games and it could cost Forest.

Now, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have delivered their opinion on the damning statement released by Forest at the final whistle of yesterday’s game with Everton.

Alan Shearer and Micah Richards deliver verdict on Forest statement

Well, it would appear that this has really riled pundits, to say the least. Now, Shearer and Richards have spoken of their disgust.

The Reds were completely done over by three horrendously bad decisions from VAR Attwell – who is apparently a Luton fan.

Forest releasing the statement is pretty unprecedented and the two pundits have agreed on the nature of their public gripe.

Both were talking on The Rest is Football podcast shortly after the game.

Shearer went first and said: “It’s an absolute embarrassment. We told the PGMOL he was a Luton fan. What on earth are they thinking about? It’s embarrassing.”

Richards echoed the opinions of his fellow pundit and he had to check that it’d come from the real account.

He claimed: “I thought it was a parody account! I was like surely this is not real, I had to check about 10 different sources to find out it was real.”

VAR needs binning for the good of football

In the current format, VAR is not fit for purpose and Forest were robbed at Goodison Park during yesterday’s Premier League clash.

A number of players have spoken out – with Neco Williams particularly upset following the contest with the Toffees.

VAR was designed to correct clear and obvious errors. Yesterday, for the third penalty shout that wasn’t evident, with Taylor signalling that Ashley Young won the ball when replays showed he didn’t.

None of it makes any sense. How can a referee who has had the career and refereed the level of games that Attwell has make such a glaring error?

Forest quite simply want accountability. It’s not just one game, it’s happening week after week with the Reds and clearly, it’s a case of enough is enough behind the scenes.
