‘Definitely’ – Coventry City star shares stance on future ahead of likely summer exit

Coventry City midfielder Liam Kelly has no plans to hang up his boots as his Sky Blues contract moves closer to expiry.
Coventry City skipper Kelly has seen a lot over his time with the club. He joined from Leyton Orient in the summer of 2017 and since then, the Sky Blues have gone from League Two to Championship promotion battles.

Kelly has played 175 times for the club over nearly seven years on the books and while he hasn’t always been the first name on the team sheet, the Scot has been a dependable figure when called upon and his experience and leadership is of immeasurable value off the pitch.

Injuries have brought the 34-year-old back into the fold of late. He’s started the back-to-back league wins over Rotherham United and Watford and amid this run in the team, talk over his future has arisen.

Rhosport spoke to Kelly over his future and he states that he definitely plans on continuing his career beyond the end of the campaign. His deal is up this summer and the report notes a new Coventry City deal is unlikely, but he will not be hanging up his boots any time soon.

“Yes, definitely,” he replied when asked about continuing his career.

“I still feel fit and even after being out for long periods of time I feel I can still come in and play for 90 minutes. I have still got a good few seasons left in me. I feel fit and strong, and, in the meantime, I just need to keep performing for Coventry when I am asked to play.

“For the immediate future, I am just looking forward to helping the team get into the play-offs and trying to achieve something.”
