Coventry City sign free transfer from Premier League

Coventry City have snapped up a promising young defender on a free transfer from Premier League Brighton and Hove Albion following a successful trial at the club.

The Sky Blues have handed Kain Ryan an initial one-year deal after the centre-back was released by the Seagulls. The 19-year-old made his debut for the club on Friday night as City’s Under-21s beat Hednesford Town on penalties to book their place in the semi-finals of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

The left-footed defender joined Brighton from Derby County’s Academy in November 2021 and was a part of Albion’s Under-18s for a season-and-a-half, before making the step up to the Under-21s at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. He made 29 appearances in the Premier League South professional development division before being released last month.
