Spotted… What the fourth official did ahead of Paul Tierney mistake that cost Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest were robbed of a point by Liverpool yesterday but a new photograph has spotted that the fourth official, Graham Scott, tried to rectify the mistake.

Graham Scott was the man overseeing things from the dugout – and it would appear he tried to bail Paul Tierney out.

The haphazard referee allowed Liverpool to regain possession despite a Forest player having the ball when the game was stopped for an injury.

Spotted: What the fourth official did to try and help Nottingham Forest
It would seem as though one official did at least have his concentration fully intact during the closing stages of yesterday’s game.

Scott is coming to the end of his career as a referee but yesterday he was handed the responsibility of fourth-man duties.

Now, it’s come to light that Scott was seemingly trying to show Tierney that he was about to make a monumental mistake to deny Forest possession back.

An image doing the rounds on Twitter shows Scott pointing to the area of the pitch where Hudson-Odoi was in possession when the game was stopped.

However, Paul Tierney wasn’t interested and chose to drop the ball to Caoimhin Kelleher in the Liverpool goal instead.

Moments later – and 45 seconds over the amount of added time – Liverpool scored their winner through Darwin Nunez.

Scott tried to do his job but it’s not good enough for Forest

The Reds simply have to get their own house in order going forward – but yesterday they were absolutely robbed.

The decision made by Paul Tierney was just completely wrong and left Forest with another gripe towards the PGMOL.

Scott has been a decent referee during a long career and he did at least try to get Tierney to change his error in the favour of Forest it would seem.

It won’t do, however, and in our view, it’s time that these match officials were held accountable for their actions.

Forest are in serious danger of relegation and decisions like this just won’t help their case whatsoever.
