Burnley and Leicester challenge Leeds United for defender Sunderland will locate a replacement and then sell for a profit.

According to TEAM talk, a number of teams are interested in Sunderland full-back Trai Hume, including Burnley, Leicester City, and Leeds United.

Hume, a Northern Ireland international, signed a cheap contract costing less than £200,000 to join Sunderland from Linfield in 2022. A number of teams are quite interested in hiring the 21-year-old due to his impressive performance.

According to TEAMtalk sources, Hume is being thoroughly examined by Burnley of the Premier League, Leicester and Leeds of the Championship, and other promotion candidates.

Hume only signed a new long-term deal in the summer, which is now set to expire in 2027 with the possibility of one more year, but considering the money Sunderland can make on him, they might be persuaded to sell.

Timothee Pembele, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, is another ready-made substitute that Sunderland has on hand.

Pembele has not yet made his Sunderland first-team debut, but Hume has started all 19 of their Championship games this season.

Hume has made 15 appearances in his natural position of right back, although four of those have been at left back. He was also able to occasionally play center defense last season.

Hume debuted for Northern Ireland on the international scene in September 2022 and has since earned six caps.

Hume ascending via the ranks
When Sunderland first signed Hume, they were still in League One, but they have since moved up to the Championship, and now at least one Premier League team is interested in signing Hume.

After earning their spot back in the top division earlier this year, Burnley is currently battling to move up out of the Premier League’s bottom three.

Meanwhile, Leeds and Leicester both suffered relegation at the end of last season and are aiming for an instant return to the top flight, with the latter leading the way at this stage.
