49-year-old took interest in Sunderland vacancy

Marek Papszun was eager to discuss managing Sunderland, according to a TEAMtalk report.

Perhaps he felt he had a fantastic chance yesterday, after Michael Beale’s tenure as head coach ended in disappointment.

The Black Cats have had a number of British managers in recent years, including Beale, Tony Mowbray, Alex Neil, Lee Johnson, and Jack Ross.

To have a wider selection of managers to pick from, the Wearside team may have broadened their search.

Nevertheless, the club has chosen to let Mike Dodds to lead the team ahead for the balance of the 2023–2024 season in place of accomplishing this.

Dodds performed a fine job taking over after Mowbray left early in the season, despite the fact that some may view this as the board calling the season off.

After winning games against teams like Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion, Dodds would have been happy with his performance and perhaps even hopeful about eventually being hired on a full-time basis.

The 37-year-old has the remainder of the season to convince Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Kristjaan Speakman that he can lead the squad to success in the long run, so this is his chance to make an impression.

Dodds’ primary objective will be to get the Black Cats into the top six, even though they are currently outside of the play-off zone.

Marek Papszun showed interest in the position at Sunderland.

In his native Poland, Papszun has managed several teams; most recently, he was the director of Rakow Czestochowa.

He guided them to their first-ever Ekstraklasa championship at the end of the previous season, but he is now a free agent and has allegedly received approaches from clubs in the UK and Saudi Arabia.

The 49-year-old was reportedly eager to speak with the Black Cats over their opening, but he might not get the chance to do so anytime soon. However, the chance to do so might present itself once more at the end of the current campaign.

It remains to be seen if the Wearside club will show any interest in him, but he was reportedly under consideration.
