Nottingham Forest send scouts to watch full-back with ‘significant potential’

The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as the club reportedly sends its scouts to watch Ayr United prospect Dylan Watret

Nottingham Forest are one of a number of Premier League clubs to have sent scouts to Scotland over the weekend, hoping to get a better look at Ayr United full-back Dylan Watret.

Club action has been sparse in the United Kingdom this past week or so with the international break. Forest are ready to return to action against Liverpool this weekend, but are said not to have wasted the time they have had off.

They sent scouts to witness SPFL Trust Trophy action north of the border this weekend, leading a cohort that featured even the likes of Arsenal. This may set up a competitive race to sign 17-year-old Watret in future.

As the supposed focus of Premier League club’s attention, he completed 90 minutes in front of home support at Somerset Park as Ayr came from two goals behind to knock Raith Rovers out of the competition. According to the report, Forest and the others that sent scouts share the same feelings as his boyhood club over his ‘significant potential’.

Watret is explained to have made his professional at the age of 16 back in December 2022 and was shortly rewarded with a contract. His first goal came earlier this season in a 1-1 draw with Dunfermline Athletic, and he has featured in three of his team’s five unbeaten Scottish Championship matches to date – a huge show of respect from manager Scott Brown.

In addition to Premier League opposition, the young defender is also said to have admirers in the Scottish Premiership. Brown’s former playing side Celtic got a good look at him in a pre-season friendly, though even they would likely be priced out by English teams.
