“In big trouble…”: A bold prediction from a BBC commentator ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s match against Coventry City

Chris Sutton has predicted the score for Sheffield Wednesday’s matchup with Coventry City this week.

Having suffered two consecutive losses to Coventry City in the past month, Sheffield Wednesday will be tired of seeing them.

But in this Friday’s FA Cup match, The Owls will be striving for a third straight victory.

Although their primary goal is to escape relegation, Danny Rohl’s team is keen to continue their winning streak after they destroyed Cardiff City 4-0 earlier this month to get off to a fantastic start in the league.

Chris Sutton isn’t confident Sheffield Wednesday will be able to overcome their recent back-to-back Championship losses.

Sutton, writing for BBC Sport, stated: “These two teams only met last Saturday, when Coventry traveled to Hillsborough and prevailed 2-1.

“Coventry, who lost in the play-off final the previous season, is in excellent form and is in the top six, while Sheffield Wednesday is in serious difficulty in the Championship relegation zone.

“I will support the Sky Blues to win even if it requires a replay.

“1-1 and Coventry to win the replay.”

Although Sheffield Wednesday’s brief participation in the FA Cup would undoubtedly boost their morale, Danny Rohl is fully aware that his team cannot lose focus on its current assignment.

At Hillsborough, winning the Championship is the team’s top priority; if doing so requires the team to set aside its focus on the Cup, then so be it.

What would happen if a replay was required for Sheffield Wednesday?
Replays against Coventry City are the last thing Sheffield Wednesday truly wants since it would mean additional games in a short period of time.

The Owls would have to play their rematch in February during the middle of the week, which is already packed with difficult matches against teams like Millwall, Birmingham City, and Leicester.

Although supporters will still be expecting Sheffield Wednesday to impress tomorrow, a third straight loss would seriously begin to wear on them psychologically.

December saw some excellent play from Danny Rohl’s team, but losing points at this time in the season is not good. Safety was only three points earlier nevertheless, but a loss against Watford the following week might put them eight points below once more.
