Tom Hanks responded to Aston Villa takeover question with Wrexham admission

Following the success of Hollywood-owned Wrexham, Tom Hanks has been asked if he would be interested in investing in Aston Villa, the Premier League team he supports.

After Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over Wrexham, NFL players Tom Brady and JJ Watt were among many who followed suit, beginning a trend of celebrity ownership in British football. Despite his passion for Aston Villa, Tom Hanks, a member of Hollywood aristocracy, is unlikely to get in on the action.

Actor Hanks, who starred in Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan, has been a distant supporter of Villa for a number of years and has recently started to visit Villa Park on occasion. He witnessed the thrilling 4-2 Premier League loss to Arsenal in the Midlands last season, as the Gunners overcame a late deficit to win the three points.

Hanks has made hundreds of millions of pounds starring in some of the highest grossing movies ever filmed, but he says he won’t be putting any money into football, at least not when it comes to backing Villa.

In a BBC interview, Hanks stated, “I think Wrexham is a little bit different in the economic scale than Aston Villa.” “It’s a bit too advanced for me.”

V Sports, owned by billionaires Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris of America and Egypt, is the owner of Villa. Forbes values the club at £610 million, which means it would take many millions of dollars to purchase a fractional share that would give you very little control over how the club is operated.

At the Charlie Wilson’s War premiere in Leicester Square in 2008, Hanks made his first public display of support for the Villains by entering the red carpet with a scarf held high and putting it over his neck.

In a 2019 interview on James Corden’s Late Late Show, the 67-year-old revealed his reasons for being a fan, saying he was initially drawn to the club after seeing its name in the scores roundup.
