Paul Mullin, star of Wrexham, has opened up about filming with Ryan Reynolds, getting screamed at by the Hollywood star, and who messed up the most.

The successful frontman was transferred to SToK Racecourse in the summer of 2021. By then, the documentary “Welcome to Wrexham” had already started filming, and Mullin was one of the people who had to get used to having a camera in their face. That didn’t bother the Merseyside native, who gladly jumped into a leading role during the filming of commercials to support the show.

In his autobiography “My Wrexham Story,” Mullin wrote of the incident as follows: “Ryan wanted to do an advert for the show and use a couple of the lads.” The plan was for him to storm into a fully stocked changing room and launch into a monologue about how chilly it was outside and how we should quit this league that plays in the winter, thereby demonstrating his own (pretended) ignorance—after all, every league plays in the winter. Mullin continued, “People often ask how many times I laughed when Ryan shoved his face into mine,” in response to a question about who made the most mistakes during filming. Reynolds and co-chairman Rob McElhenney were able to get the shot they were after. Unconsciously, I think that wanting to avoid making a mistake prevented me from crying: we did a lot of takes, but it was really just a few times. We could have spent the entire day there if not.
