BREAKING NEW: With 54 career goals, Sunderland is considering a move for a £1.7 million-rated Ace.

Before the January transfer window closes, Sunderland is looking to add a center-forward, and a fresh player has apparently caught their attention.

Following the resignation of former manager Tony Mowbray, the Black Cats have had a very patchy season. The Wearside club has had four victories, three losses, and a draw in eight games across all competitions.

Even so, Sunderland has managed to sneak back into the playoffs under new head coach Michael Beale, Tony Mowbray though they are presently only one point out of contention. But the team has the opportunity to bolster their roster in front of the final months of the season during the January transfer window.

The striker position is one area where the Black Cats are attempting to bolster themselves. Talisman Jack Clarke has scored 12 of Sunderland’s 36 goals this season in the Championship, accounting for 33.3% of the team’s total points.

In addition, Sunderland currently has Hemir Semedo, Mason Burstow, Jewison Bennette, Eliezer Mayenda, and Nazariy Rusyn as their five center-forwards. Out of the five, Rusyn’s goal against Preston North End on New Year’s Day was the only one to score.

Sam Gallagher, a striker for Blackburn Rovers, has reportedly been added by Sunderland to their list of possible targets for coming winter, per The Northern Echo.

The former Southampton attacker, who has only made six appearances this season under Jon Dahl Tomasson—five of which have been in the Championship—has battled to get playing time at Ewood Park. Gallagher still has two goals, though, which is more than all five of Sunderland’s strikers combined.

The 28-year-old has played in 289 games during his professional career, tallying 23 assists and 54 goals, 48 of which came in England’s second division. Furthermore, according to Transfermarkt, the striker’s market value is currently estimated to be £1.7 million, which puts him within Sunderland’s financial reach.

Author’s Perspective

Fans of Sunderland would not find this to be the most exciting signing, for sure. Gallagher, though, will probably fit inside the board’s January spending plan and has a lot of goal-scoring experience in the Championship.

At this point, Sunderland needs a striker badly, and if Gallagher is eager to transfer to the Stadium of Light, they should aim to do so as soon as possible.
