The £70 million player that a Newcastle source has now told the journalist about

Newcastle is apparently one of the teams interested in Ousmane Diomande, who has been the subject of a lot of transfer rumors lately.

The Magpies are reportedly eager to sign the Sporting defender, who has been making headlines in Portugal.

But as of right now, this deal isn’t going through, according to Dean Jones, who made this statement on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel.

Jones claims that when he looked into the Diomande rumor a few days ago, a reliable source in Newcastle informed him that the project would not move forward and that it would have to wait until the summer because of FFP restrictions.

Diomande not happening

Jones gave his knowledge of the defender.

“Let me clarify one thing: he claims that Diomande is being signed by Newcastle. No, they are not signing him; he is a defender worth about £70 million. The other day, I looked into this. According to Jones, “Unless my contact at Newcastle is a total dud—which I don’t think he is—he says this can’t get off the ground right now because everything like that has to be pushed back to the summer.”

Frustrating

If you’re a Newcastle supporter, hearing this is really upsetting.

When Newcastle became the wealthiest club in the world two years ago, many predicted that they would spend absurd sums of money on elite players during each and every transfer window.

Even the wealthiest teams can be impacted by FFP, as we all know, so while Newcastle has the financial wherewithal to spend as they choose, they are not without limits.

Diomande will have to wait until the summer, and Newcastle is undoubtedly holding off on signing other transfer targets as well.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle is able to make any deals this month.
