Ange Postecoglou issues honest verdict on Wilson Odobert’s debut vs Everton on Saturday
|Tottenham Hotspur picked up their first victory of the season yesterday.
Spurs were 4-0 victors against Everton and made significant improvements from the previous clash away at Leicester City on Monday night.
The North Londoners were electrifying going forward and there was a debut for the new £30m signing from Burnley Wilson Odobert.
Ange Postecoglou issued his verdict on Odobert’s first outing in Tottenham colours.
Ange Postecoglou says Wilson Odobert was ‘really exciting’ vs Everton
Speaking post-match, Postecoglou said Odobert was ‘really exciting’ against The Toffees.
“Exciting,” the Spurs boss said.
“Like I said, he’s different from our other wingers. He goes at his opponent and, you know, even if he wasn’t successful, he went at him again and I think that’s exactly why we brought him to the club.
“I mean, he’s 19-years-old, his first game for his new club at home in front of 60,000. Yeah, really exciting.”
Wilson Odobert statistics
Odobert’s underlying statistics were pretty impressive
- 66 minutes played
- 58 touches
- 86% pass accuracy
- 1 key pass
- 7/15 duels won
The French youth international operated off the left but he’s been used as a right-winger in
training, so clearly Postecoglou is comfortable playing him in a number of areas.
Odobert can also ply his trade as a number 10, providing great cover for James Maddison should he need a rest at any point this season.
Tottenham travel to Newcastle United’s St James’ Park fortress on September 1st in what’s expected to be a really tough game.
