After Philippe Clement made Fabio Silva his first Rangers acquisition, the team is now looking for a left-back in the January transfer window.

The Portuguese striker will be registered on January 1st, when the transfer window opens, after the Light Blues and Wolves reached an agreement for him to play on loan for the second half of the season. In order to acquire Silva, the Rangers defeated fierce competition from teams like Union Berlin, Wolfsburg, Borussia Monchengladbach, Genoa, and Monza. If Silva receives international clearance in time, he might play in the Kilmarnock match on New Year’s Day.

The 21-year-old has been offered a loan by both Rangers and Celtic. Rangers secured their position by consenting to provide a hefty five-figure sum towards his weekly salary. The Portuguese under-21 player was also consulted by Clement and the recently appointed director of football Nils Koppen, who persuaded him to relocate to Ibrox. A center striker is now Clement’s first priority as he attempts to win the championship.

One of the main reasons Silva was signed was the opportunity to compete for trophies and to play in the Europa League playoffs. Silva was acquired by Wolves for over ÂŁ35 million three years ago, but in subsequent campaigns, he has had difficulty securing a consistent starting position.

Last season, he had stints at PSV Eindhoven and Anderlecht. Rangers were desperate for a striker, and Silva was one of their main targets. “I am thrilled we were able to sign Fabio; he is a highly-rated striker and it is fantastic to have him joining our squad for the rest of the season,” Clement stated.

“He is a young player with a wealth of great experience from his time playing in Europe and England, and I am excited to work with him going forward.”

A left-back is still a target for Rangers in the January transfer window. Borna Barisic, a Croatian, has an expiration contract in the summer, and Ridvan Yilmaz has had difficulty holding down that role. Rangers have been scouting Kai Wagner of the Philadelphia Union and Fredrik Oppegard of PSV Eindhoven recently.
