Coventry City are back: Mark Robins has brought sanity, stability and overdue success to a club used to unrest

A January transfer window move for Brighton prospect Marc Leonard, who is presently enjoying an extended loan stint at League One Northampton Town, has been linked to Coventry City.

The Daily Record claims that the Sky Blues and several other competing Championship clubs are keeping an eye on the 22-year-old former Scotland youth international, who has seven caps for his nation’s Under-21 squad.

A central midfielder, Leonard has impressed with the Cobblers and Coventry are now “looking at giving him a potential step up to the Championship,” claims the report north of the border, insisting that boss Mark Robins has been “impressed” and is “keen to try and land him” when the transfer window opens in a few days’ time.

Yasin Ayari, a Brighton midfielder on loan, is already at City. However, the teenager may decide to end his season-long loan early next month because of a lack of playing time. Ayari has fallen down the ladder in recent weeks.

Leonard, on the other hand, assisted Northampton in winning promotion to League One the previous year and has so far this season helped them establish a solid base in mid-table. It is rumored that Town is eager to hold onto him, thus losing him would be devastating.

The player returned to Sixfields in the summer after agreeing to a new, long-term contract at Brighton. The youthful Scottish player attended Hearts’ academy before relocating to Brighton in 2018. By trade, Leonard is a central midfielder, but he can also play attacking or holding. Leonard has scored two goals in the league.

Robins, meanwhile, is keeping his cards close to his chest in terms of what business he may be able to do in January, but he has admitted publicly that he would like to strengthen his midfield options after failing to sign a replacement for Gustavo Hamer in the summer.
