Players at Leicester City are already considering their futures, making the January transfer process “quite clear.”

Enzo Maresca gives his thoughts on the transfer window with just a few days to go until clubs can conduct deals in and out, with movement expected at the King Power Stadium

Enzo Maresca is aware of what Leicester City needs to add in the January transfer window, and he anticipates that some players in his team are considering their options before the market reopens.

Maresca says he is clear about the areas his team needs to be strengthened, having met with the City recruitment team about potential business for next month. He’s previously made it clear that he wants a left-footed defender, and City may now start looking for an attacking midfield player after their attempt to sign James McAtee, an England Under-21 international, at the end of the summer failed. McAtee ended up signing with Sheffield United.

But the City boss has previously said that for any deals to be conducted, players must leave first. As things stand, all 25 spots in City’s permitted squad are filled.

According to Maresca, certain City players are considering their futures and will be looking to leave when January approaches. He claims that no player has yet to address their wish to leave with him, and that because the team’s Championship games are currently the main focus, he does not want them to do so until the new year.

“I don’t want them to think about January right now, even though some of them are probably thinking about it already because that’s normal,” he stated. If any of them do come to ask to go, we’ll see in January. If so, we’ll see how we can work out a solution that works for both of us.

As City has discovered, January business can be difficult. Victor Kristiansen, Harry Souttar, and Tete were signed by City at the beginning of this year, although they were the team’s first five-year winter acquisitions since Fousseni Diabate was acquired in 2018.

It is not out of the ordinary for City to go an entire month without losing or gaining any players. Maresca continued, saying he would be “100%” happy if he could start February with the same team he has now.
