Bayern Munich splurge next summer on Bayer Leverkusen star while Xabi Alonso had already made contact with PSG player

According to a report from Bild (as captured by Get German Football News), Bayern Munich could play a role in the future of Xavi Simons, even if the never plays a minute for the club.

Should Bayern Munich splurge next summer on Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, Bayer Leverkusen could move quickly to grab Simons, who is on loan at RB Leipzig this season from Paris Saint-Germain. Per the report, Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has already made contact with Simons about a future partnership:

Bild reports that Bayer Leverkusen threw their hat in the ring for Xavi Simons this summer with it going as far as Xabi Alonso even having a phone call with the Dutch international.

It is said that the pair held a video call over the summer where Alonso presented his ideas to Simons as well as subsequent efforts to try and convince Simons to move to Leverkusen. Compare this to Bayern Munich, who just sent Simons WhatsApp messages from director Max Eberl.

Despite Simons choosing to return to RB Leipzig this summer, Leverkusen will continue to the 21-year-old as they view him as the ideal replacement for Florian Wirtz who is expected to leave the BayArena next summer.

The potential departure of Wirtz would also fund Leverkusen’s pursuit of Simons as Wirtz is expected to bring in around €100m which would cover the cost for the Dutch international.

There are a couple of factors that could come into play that disrupt a potential deal. The first of which is that Alonso might move on from Bayer Leverkusen after this season. Second, Simons is rumored to have the Premier League on his mind. Third, whoever attempts to acquire Simons, needs to make a deal with PSG, who will likely have a high value on the talented attacker.

For Bayern Munich, Simons was considered to be a contingency plan for next season should the club fail to land its primary target — Wirtz.
