Jamie Carragher shares confident prediction about Arsenal against Wolverhampton Wanderers

The Premier League kick off is closing in and Arsenal are looking to make a perfect start against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.

Mikel Arteta’s side came so, so close to winning the Premier League title last season.

The Gunners took it to the final day and simply did not allow Manchester City to rest in the final stages of the campaign.

Just moments after Arsenal’s season ended, Arteta was already thinking about the next campaign.

‘Don’t be satisfied. We want much more than that and we’re going to get it’ said Arteta in a rousing message to Arsenal fans.

Arteta will be gearing up for another title challenge and fans will be seeking a perfect start against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.

Jamie Carragher on Arsenal v Wolves

Many will be backing Arsenal to claim all three points without too much hassle here.

Wolves are a tricky side to play against though with Gary O’Neil’s tactical approach catching the eye since his appointment last year.

Arsenal beat Wolves 2-1 at home last season but suffered a late scare as O’Neil’s side caused problems.

It was a similar story towards the end of the season as Arsenal beat Wolves 2-0 at Molineux with a professional display.

Wolves have just lost Pedro Neto to Chelsea, which certainly damages them and gives Arsenal a boost ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Pundit Jamie Carragher has now shared his prediction for the game whilst speaking on Stick to Football.

Carragher believes that Arsenal will not concede a goal against Wolves and will ‘definitely’ go 2-0 up at the Emirates Stadium.

Carragher clearly has major belief in Arsenal’s back line and believes they will be able to keep Wolves at bay.

The former Liverpool defender feels that Arsenal will then close the game out and will be comfortable with a 2-0 victory rather than going for more goals.

“They’re not conceding, Arsenal are not conceding,” said Carragher. “They definitely go 2-0 up, and it’s just whether they think… first game of the season, the sun is out, 2-0 is enough. Wolves are happy with 2-0, everyone is happy with 2-0,” he added.

Arsenal defensive prowess

Arsenal have played some brilliant football under Arteta but the most impressive factor in their success in recent years has been the defensive improvement.

The Gunners conceded just 29 goals in 38 Premier League games last season and that defensive excellence should continue this term.

David Raya has signed for Arsenal permanently this summer and will return with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in front of him.

Ben White is likely to start at right back with Jurrien Timber’s return from injury offering new competition.

Timber could also start at left back with new signing Riccardo Calafiori offering another option on the left side of defence.

Oleksandr Zinchenko should start the season at left back but Arsenal have competition for place all across the back line.

No matter the combination, Arsenal appear to have the options for another great defensive campaign.
