Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus Roundup, where the three senior of Bayern Munich’s youth teams, the U-23s, U-19s and U-17s, have their weekend’s matches recapped. Livestreams are behind a FCBayernTV subscription or simply not available, but highlights of the games are free and hyperlinked on top of the scorelines of each respective game (aside from the U-17s highlights, which unfortunately were not released).

Bayern II 4-2 SpVgg Bayreuth

Bayern II lineup: Schmitt – Manuba (46. Wimmer), Breitkreuz, Dettoni, Brückner – Della Rovere (46. Becker), Denk, Asp Jensen (90.+3 Scholl) – Wagner (90. Unsöld), Kern (73. Scott), Demircan.

Goals: 1:0 Kern (5.), 2:0 Asp Jensen (15.), 3:1 Demircan (41.), 4:2 Demircan (90.+4).

Though the season is still young, Bayern’s U-23s, otherwise known as Bayern II, were already coming up against one of the favorites to win the Regionalliga in SpVgg Bayreuth, who won it once already back in 2022. After 3 games, Bayern II were on 7 points, 2 behind a perfect Bayreuth. But one would not have known the visitor’s perfect record from this game, as Bayern II stormed ahead within 15 minutes through two moments of pure individual class. First, 17-year-old debutante and new summer signing Guido Della Rovere won the ball on the right near the penalty area and maneuvered past 3 opponents with slick, confident dribbling before laying the ball off for Timo Kern to score with a smart improvised finish. Next, Asp Jensen repeated Della Rovere’s trick by easing past 3 opponents before blasting the ball into the back of the net.

Unfortunately, Bayreuth would quickly reduce the arrears with a highly controversial penalty, awarded due to the attacker hitting the hand of center back Dettoni with the ball from very close range. The penalty was duly dispatched. Bayern II and Bayreuth would continue to blow for blow, Demircan grabbing a third before Bayreuth won and converted yet another controversial penalty as goalkeeper Schmitt was adjudged to have fouled the opposing striker. Bayreuth continued to push, going down to 10 men due to having used all 5 subs and losing a player due to injury and hitting the woodwork twice, but eventually overcommited in the 94th minute, allowing Demircan to seal the deal and score a crucial 4th goal for Bayern II.

This result puts Bayern II second in the table, level on points with 1st place Illertissen. Their next game will be against Aschaffenburg on Friday, August 16th, at 12:00PM CST. An FCBayernTV subscription will likely be necessary to watch that game

Bayern U-19 2-0 SpVgg Unterhaching U-19

U-19 Bayern lineup: Pavlešić – Dalpiaz, Puljić, Mijatović, Ofli (90. Kouam) – Binder (77. Chemwor), Santos, Sadat (56. Chávez), Nasrawe (90. Schäfer), Durakov (56. Wilson) – Eckl (56. Codjo-Evora)

Goals: 0:1 Mijatović (90.+4), 0:2 Wilson (90.+8)

The next match saw yet another 94th minute goal turn the tides of the match, but this time it was even the winner. Before the match, head coach Peter Gaydarov spoke about Unterhaching’s physical advantage over Bayern and it was one that proved difficult to work around for the young Bavarians. They controlled the game well, but the final pass proved difficult to connect in the first half as the opponents would use their superior physicality to block any attempts to get close to goal. Bayern started really carving out opportunities in the second half, though, with Wilson in particular getting onto the end of some very good chances, only to miss.

But finally the breakthrough came in 94th minute, as a corner was headed back towards center backs Mijatović to shove it in from two yards and give the young team the lead. A late free kick from Unterhaching was then intercepted and played towards Wilson on the counter, who somehow managed to round the goalkeeper and score from the narrowest of angles.

The season is just two matchdays old, so the standings are not too important. But Bayern continue their perfect start to the season and sit join top of the table with 6 points. Their next game will on Wednesday, August 14th at 11:30am CST. Again, an FCBayernTV subscription will likely be necessary.

SpVgg Unterhaching U-17 1-9 Bayern U-17

Bayern lineup: Ruland – Wijks, Kiala, Pavlić (66. Anand), Moumouni (55. Ajayi) – Karl (80. Schmid), Lambe (80. Danioko), Göttlicher – Egwuatu (66. Zogaj), Gashi (55. Afanou), Mike.

Goals: 0:1 Egwuatu (30.), 0:2 Karl (33.), 0:3 Gashi (38., Foulelfmeter), 0:4 Karl (43.), 0:5 Karl (45.), 1:5 (48.) 1:6 Karl (50.), 1:7 Karl (60.), 1:8 Mike (81.), 1:9 Danioko (85.).

You read that right. Bayern’s U-17s ran riot against SpVgg Unterhaching’s U-17s, hitting them for 9 in their first match of the season. Of course, this would be the game where Bayern would refuse to release highlights of the U-17s, wouldn’t it? Despite the overwhelming scoreline, featured head coach Patrick Kaniuth speaking of an underwhelming performance: “We had a hard time getting into the game, played slowly and didn’t build up any momentum due to poor movement. At the beginning we were lucky that Unterhaching didn’t take the lead, but after our first goal the deadlock was broken. Without really playing brilliantly, we kept pushing for goals and played forward. There is still a lot to do: We want to coordinate our game better and work to the limit individually.”

One would not have thought he was talking about a 9-1 win. It did take Bayern half an hour to open the scoring, but a 5-0 halftime lead was still a rather comfortable one. Combining the furious onslaught of goals with a red card for Unterhaching in the 49th minute meant there was no way back for the home side. The star of the show for Bayern was Lennart Karl, who bagged an incredible 5 goals, but the likes of Danioko, Egwuatu, Gashi and Mike also chipped in.

This result naturally puts the U-17s top of the table after the first matchday. It is difficult to beat a goal difference of 8 after 1 game played. after all. The team’s next game will be against Ulm’s U-17s on Saturday, April 17th at 4:00AM CST.
