Vincent Kompany played his first ever UEFA Champions League against Bayern Munich: View

…and will now have to try and guide Bayern Munich to Finale Dahoam with a different ending

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany knows a thing or two about playing against Bayern Munich from his Anderlecht days. The first time he stood on the pitch as a player in the group stages as the UEFA Champions League anthem blared was against Bayern Munich after all. And that team had quite a few memorable names as Kompany explained

Here is the tweet in full:

Kompany on his first memory of FC Bayern: “It was actually my first Champions League game. I played against Roy Makaay upfront, he was my direct opponent. There was also Basti Schweinsteiger, Owen Hargreaves, Sammy Kuffour, Oliver Kahn, Salihamidžić, Pizarro. It was a very good team. I have to say I played very well [laughs]. It was a draw at home – a very good experience”

Indeed, that was a special group of players; that team had so many past Champions League winners and a future one in Bastian Schweinsteiger. While Kompany mentions that he played well, it was worth mentioning that Bayern went down to 10 men in that match as Claudio Pizarro (of all players) was dismissed in the 36th minute. Bayern went down a goal early in the second half but Roque Santa Cruz (another beloved name) equalized late in the match.

Will Kompany have the winning mentality and the nous needed to guide a team like Bayern Munich in the Champions League?
