Reports: Juventus closing in on deal for AC Milan

Juventus’ Plan A and Plan B for a center back to pair alongside Bremer having both moved to the Premier League because money talks, Cristiano Giuntoli has had to pivot once again. That, apparently, has led him to Milan where another French defender is next up.

According to reports out of Italy on Monday, Juventus and AC Milan are in talks over a deal for defender Pierre Kalulu. The formula is basically what it was when Juve were in talks with Nice for Jean-Clair Todibo, although for nowhere near the same amount of money as they were going to send the French club’s way. This time, Juventus have reportedly sent an offer to Milan in the form of a season-long loan with an option to buy the 24-year-old Kalulu outright next summer. Juve would pay a loan fee around €3 million with an option to buy being in the neighborhood of €15 million.

Juventus manager Thiago Motta is reportedly an admirer of Kalulu, who missed a total of 39 games in all competitions a year ago during an injury-ravaged 2023-24 campaign with Milan, most of which due to a torn muscle in his thigh he suffered in late October.

According to Romeo Agresti, Kalulu has already accepted a move to Juventus, leaving things to the two clubs to hammer out and see the deal reach the finish line. moved to the Premier League because money talks, Cristiano Giuntoli has had to pivot once again. Kalulu, in theory, is a solid signing and one that can likely play a few different positions across the backline for Motta this coming season. However, the simple fact that he is coming off a season filled with injuries that limited him to just 375 minutes in Serie A is a major sticking point. It’s something that is unavoidable, and probably a potential sticking point when it comes to negotiating the buy option Juve will have if the deal happens.

And for a team that is currently challenged when it comes to their depth, Juventus can’t afford to have one of their new signings missing a whole lot of time for the second straight season.

The thing is, during the 2022-23 season, Kalulu was one of Milan’s more reliable players. He played the fourth-most amount of minutes and made 34 appearances, 26 of which were starts. So which one is it going to be if Juventus do end up signing him?
