Nottingham Forest announce two-year deal and squad plans for youngster

Head of academy Chris McGuane says the 16-year-old’s signing is evidence that Forest are “competing for the best talent” out there

Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Northern Ireland youngster Scott Hamilton has joined the club. The 16-year-old forward has agreed a two-year scholarship deal and will link up with the club’s Under 18 squad.

Hamilton joins Forest from Linfield and has already spent pre-season with the Premier League outfit.

Head of Academy Chris McGuane believes Hamilton’s signing is evidence that Forest are “competing for the best talent” out there.

Nottingham Forest said on their website: “Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm Scott Hamilton has joined the Club as a scholar, as part of the Under-18 squad. Having enjoyed a strong pre-season already with the team, Hamilton will continue his development at the Club, joining as a scholar on a two-year deal, with the Club retaining an option for an additional year.

“The 16-year-old forward arrives on Trentside from Linfield, adding to the strong contingent of Northern Irish young players at the Club. Hamilton has recently been called up to the Northern Ireland Under-17 squad for upcoming friendlies against Turkey.”

McGuane added: “Scott has impressed our recruitment team over a long period, particularly the excellent Jimmy Calvin, who leads our Northern Ireland scouting process, and we are delighted to have him at the Club.

“Our priority will always be the best local players, however our new and expanding recruitment team will ensure Forest are competing for the best talent from further afield.

“We’re pleased to welcome Scott to the Club and look forward to seeing how he develops over the course of his scholarship.”

Forest also said: “The Club wishes Scott the best for upcoming season and would also like to thank Linfield for their cooperation and professionalism over the deal.”

Hamilton becomes the latest Linfield teen to move across the water this summer following deals for Braiden Graham (Everton(, Ceadach O’Neill (Arsenal) and Aodhan Doherty (Blackburn Rovers).

He also follows the career path of Northern Ireland striker Dale Taylor who swapped Linfield for Nottingham Forest back in 2020.
