VIDEO: Pre-season Highlights of Nottingham Forest v Villarreal CF

Forest were held to a goalless draw by La Liga side Villarreal in the penultimate fixture of pre-season.

Nuno Espírito Santo began with a back four of Neco Williams, Nikola Milenković, Murillo and Ola Aina in front of Matz Sels in goal.

Ibrahim Sangaré and Danilo anchored the midfield, with the trio of Anthony Elanga, Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi supporting Chris Wood in attack.

Forest looked to begin the contest on the front foot, with Danilo having the hosts’ first sight of goal. The midfielder broke forward and drove a dangerous shot just wide of the post.

But Villarreal grew into the game and had the chance to break the deadlock when Ramón Terrats was fouled by Murillo inside the area.

Arnaut Danjuma stepped up, but the Dutchman struck the post from the penalty spot with Matz Sels also diving the correct way as the scores remained level.

Forest had their best chance of the game before the break when Anthony Elanga beat the offside trap down the right channel and crossed for Chris Wood whose superb volley was well saved and tipped over the crossbar.

Nuno made wholesale changes throughout a tightly-contested second half, however Forest’s penultimate friendly finished goalless with another good test and more valuable minutes in the legs.
