Wolves boss opened up about the potential departure of one of his star men

Gary O’Neil has spoken about the future of Pedro Neto and admitted ‘no one is going to stand in Pedro’s way’

Neto has been subject to much transfer speculation this summer, with Spurs the most likely destination if the Portuguese were to leave Molineux – the 24-year-old played 20 matches last term registering eleven goal involvement including nine assists. Liverpool and Arsenal and also said to be keen admirers of the winger.

A transfer would prove a risk for his preferred club as he has not played more than 20 games in a season since 2020/21 with a hamstring issue keeping him out of 18 Premier League matches last season.

The Wolves boss said: “I know how good he is, and I know how well he would do at a big club. Obviously I want our team here to be unbelievably successful. So I’m hoping that he stays.

“I think so (there’s a chance he stays). There’s nothing going on at this moment from anybody. He’s in a good spot, I’ve spoken to him about how we’re going to play and how it suits him and what a big part he’ll play in it. But of course, we’re all grown-ups while you’re having them conversations. If a massive bid comes from a top club then no one is going to stand in Pedro’s way.

“I’m confident that he will be here. Because we haven’t had anything really, that makes the club think that he won’t be. But of course, a lot of business can be done late.”

Despite O’Neil’s confidence Wolves’ hands may be tied as they intend to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules – which was apparent during the sale of former captain Max Kilman who left for West Ham United the club for a £40m. As a result, Wolves may need to purchase a starting left-sided centre-back from the funds provided by the 27-year-old departure.

The Wolves boss may be short on options if Neto departed with just two senior right wingers – Daniel Podence and Pablo Sarabia – meaning another dip into the transfer pot may be needed.
