Crystal Palace’s £191m transfer window predicted as Glasner agrees Man Utd and Spurs deals

Oliver Glasner’s arrival at Crystal Palace during the second half of last season heralded an upturn in fortunes for the Eagles as they enjoyed a positive end to the campaign.

The challenge lying ahead for everybody involved at Selhurst Park is to ensure the momentum built up carries on throughout the summer and into Glasner’s first full season in charge of the the club. The former Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg manager has also endured something of a blow after Michael Olise was sold to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich as his sparkling form was rewarded with a big money move to one of European football’s elite clubs.

Glasner has already made two new signings and a deal for former Watford winger Ismaila Sarr is also approaching completion. There were no changes in the goalkeeping ranks as Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone battle it out for the number one spot and Remi Matthews provides backup as third choice.

Defenders

There were no departures Palace’s backline but there were new arrivals as the virtual Glasner got to work in the transfer market. Firstly, the Eagles boss brought in Tottenham Hotspur full-back Emerson Royal on a season-long loan before making a move to sign Brighton and Hove Albion defender Adam Webster in a £2m deal. The major boost came with Palace resisting bids from Newcastle United and Manchester United for centre-back duo Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen.

Midfielders

There was one big departure in the middle of the park and it came after Manchester United made a surprise £32m offer for Abdoulaye Doucoure. The powerful midfielder was quickly replaced by Glasner as he completed a £7.5m move for Switzerland international Ardon Jashari within 48 hours of Doucoure’s departure being confirmed.

Forwards

The loss of Olise stung Palace fans and the virtual Selhurst Park faithful were further reeling when Eberechi Eze was sold to West Ham United in a £49m deal. Odsonne Edouard also departed to Saudi club Al-Shabab. There were three loan exits from the forward ranks as Andre Ayew joined Mexican club Pumas, Malcolm Ebiowei agreed to a season-long stint at Leeds United and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi moved to Preston North End. There were three new arrivals as Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho was snapped up on a season-long loan move before Glasner handed over £14.5m to sign Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood and Inter star Joaquin Correa.
