JUST IN: Aston Villa injury crisis deepens as Unai Emery ‘loses’ £26m defender

Diego Carlos is the latest member of Aston Villa’s first team to miss out due to a hamstring injury he apparently suffered during training.

Unai Emery weighs in on controversial Aston Villa claim, name-dropping Arsenal and Newcastle United

Although the extent of the Brazilian’s problem is now unknown, Villa plans to find out soon since scans will be carried out right away. Carlos is the most recent Villan to visit the treatment area, according to a story from The Athletic.

Bodymoor Heath is facing a significant injury issue that Unai Emery must manage. Boubacar Kamara’s anterior cruciate ligament rupture was verified earlier this week, and Ezri Konsa also experienced a knee problem.

Ligament problems are nothing new for Villa; back in August, Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia were both declared out for the season. Following their surgeries at the end of the summer, the two have been undergoing rehabilitation.

Villa may find themselves in a difficult situation if Carlos turns out to be a long-term absentee and Konsa doesn’t return anytime soon. Only Paul Torres, Clement Lenglet, and Calum Chambers would remain as established first-team center halves.

With Pau, too, Emery will need to err on the side of caution because the £32 million summer acquisition has once or twice made an ankle injury worse by being rushed back.
