Thomas Müller had a tremendous week at Bayern Munich not too long ago. His contract with the club was originally scheduled to expire in 2024, but he formally extended it to continue through June 2025. The extension complies with Bayern’s own policy, which states that contracts for players over 30 cannot be extended for longer than a year, but there have undoubtedly been exceptions. Manuel Neuer, whose contract had also been extended by a year shortly before his own, was emulated by the Raumdeuter.

For Bayern’s final two Bundesliga games in the hinrunde, a 3-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart and a 2-1 victory against VfL Wolfsburg, in which he assisted on both of Bayern’s goals, Müller also returned to the starting lineup for Thomas Tuchel. He had been out of Tuchel’s starting lineup for a considerable amount of time as the manager had been starting Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané, and Jamal Musiala (when fit) alongside and somewhat behind Harry Kane. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was controversially started by Tuchel in a center spot, right behind Kane, for two games, while Müller was benched.

Kane recently expressed his happiness that Bayern had managed to secure Müller for at least another year in light of the new contract deal. Compared to Kane and Sané, the two have not yet established a particularly successful attacking relationship for Bayern, but Müller is a member of the team who Kane greatly respects. “Thommy is a terrific player and team leader. Big congratulations to him.” He is the ideal teammate and player in every way. I’m glad he decided to extend. He had two assists in an incredible game. He establishes the bar for everyone. We also push each other on the training field,” Bayern’s ninth player told Bild.

Müller has demonstrated that, when selected, he is a very successful attacker, even though Tuchel may not always start Müller when all of his attackers are healthy. Even though he plays less minutes and must obviously work harder to deliver, he is more than capable of contributing as a substitute when other players in the team gain from his presence on the field.
