Danny Murphy makes confident Liverpool prediction ahead of Arsenal showdown

The strength of Liverpool’s home performance has been a major factor in their title challenge; their draw with Manchester United last weekend marked their first loss at home this season.

Last night, a significantly altered Reds lineup defeated West Ham 5-1, propelling Jurgen Klopp’s team into the Carabao Cup semifinals.

Liverpool vs Arsenal meet at Anfield in a pre-Christmas cracker

While everything was going on, Arsenal took advantage of a rare error by Liverpool to defeat Brighton and return to the top of the table. They can further cement their title credentials by winning at Anfield for the first time since 2012.

Murphy worries that because the Gunners blew a 2-0 lead in the same match last season, their opponents will prefer to match Arsenal point-for-point instead of using the extremely conservative strategies that United employed to frustrate Liverpool.

“I think it’s a bigger surprise if Arsenal win there than if Liverpool beat Arsenal, especially with their record there,” he said in an interview with Vibe with Five.

Even the previous year, they led 2-0, threw it away, and ought to have lost.

‘I don’t think if either loses you can write them off completely. I think it’s a bigger game for Liverpool after the United game to actually send a message.

‘I think for Liverpool in terms of confidence, Arsenal you can see what they’re doing and they’ve only lost two.

Arsenal won’t shut up shop. Who is going to stop Salah? Zinchenko is a fantastic football player, but he’s not as good defensively as Tomiyasu. Both ways Arsenal have a go and I see goals, but when teams come to Anfield and have a go, Liverpool end up on top, which is why they haven’t lost there this season. But they’ve been close and gave Villa their best game.
