Bayern president gives Matthijs de Ligt transfer hope

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has suggested Matthijs de Ligt could be sold this summer amid interest from Manchester United.

United signed Leny Yoro from Lille last week but are still interested in a move for another centre-back if they manage to raise funds through player sales. Club sources have not ruled out a move for another central defender, as long as the price is right and they manage to balance the books.

“It’s possible that a defender will leave,” he told German media over the weekend. “De Ligt is Dutch, the coach at Manchester United is Dutch… I would have no problem if he stays. Personally, I would not sell Upamecano.”

The update from Hoeness came shortly after Ten Hag was asked about his hopes of signing the former Ajax star. Quizzed on a move by Algemeen Dagblad, he said: “We still have to wait and see whether De Ligt will come. But the good thing is, during my vacation I was out of the process for three or four weeks.”

“During that period it was really the club, the newly established scouting and recruitment department, that brought in these players.”
