The Rangers and Celtic transfer priorities still to be addressed and can Andy Murray provide golden Olympic ending?

Rangers must sell before they can buy but which positions should Philippe Clement prioritise?

KEITH JACKSON: He needs a fully functioning No 9. Cyriel Dessers doesn’t lack effort but continues to look like a competition winner. Rangers also need to add quality and experience in the centre of midfield having lost Ryan Jack and John Lundstram.

ANDY NEWPORT: The lack of quality in the final third is frankly alarming and no wonder the Rangers support are in a panic. Danilo’s return from seven months out should spare the punters having to watch Dessers stumble around for another season but Gers really need better quality down the flanks if they are to mount anything like a challenge to Celtic.

MICHAEL GANNON: Most of them. There’s still huge work required with this Gers squad. Clement could do with additions at centre back, centre mid and centre forward, as well as in the wide areas. It’s a fairly daunting task as it won’t be easy shifting guys on decent wages.

And what does Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers need in the transfer market before the big kick-off?

KEITH: Now that the goalkeeping situation has been sorted out Rodgers will be looking to beef up his options at left back and he should also be in the market for a new centre half. With money to spend, he may go big for an upgraded winger into the bargain.

ANDY: He needs to sort out another striker to challenge Kyogo. That may well be Adam Idah but that’s been rumbling away all summer and a deal still doesn’t appear to be any closer. Beyond that, a new centre-back, left back and attacking midfielder would come in handy.

MICHAEL: Not as much as Rangers but there’s still plenty required. Rodgers needs two new strikers and two midfielders if Matt O’Riley goes. Completion at left back and centre half would be handy too.

Erik Ten Hag insists he wants to keep Scott McTominay at Old Trafford but is it time for the Scotland star to leave Manchester United?

KEITH: Not if he’s going to get more regular game time. McTominay might not be fully appreciated by the club’s fans but he was one of United’s biggest contributors last season, whenever he was out there on the pitch.

ANDY: The punters at Old Trafford are a fickle bunch but they should be thanking McTominay for digging them out of a hole at times last term. His Dutch boss, though, seems to be appreciative of his efforts so I reckon the boyhood Red Devils fan will stick it out at United.

MICHAEL: McTominay is at a huge club that should be competing for silverware. He plays a big role and I wouldn’t be in a hurry to jump ship just yet.

KEITH: Murray’s got the heart to give it a go but his body is no longer able or willing. The brilliance of Carlos Alcaraz is ushering in a change of the guard at the top end of the sport.

ANDY: Given the adventures the great man has led us on down the years you’d love to see it happen. But sadly Sir Andy’s body is beginning to fail him and sadly we’re likely to see the curtain come down on an astonishing career in the early rounds.

MICHAEL: It would be an incredible way to sign off an unbelievable career. But we have to be realistic. Our Andy is battling Father Time, it’s the fifth set and he’s facing match point.
