Newcastle chief Paul Mitchell in talks to beat West Ham to new signing

West Ham United are set to battle Newcastle United for the signature of Jean-Clair Todibo, with the Magpies sporting director Paul Mitchell now in talks with Nice over a potential deal

The current deal with West Ham would see the centre-back, 24, joining on a season-long loan, with an option to buy for about ÂŁ27million.

And, despite Newcastle’s interest, Todibo is unlikely to move north east for now, according to the report.

West Ham might face a battle for Jean-Clair Todibo

West Ham could be in for a tough fight to secure Jean-Clair Todibo. The club has lined up a deal to bring the Nice defender on a season-long loan with an option to buy for about £27 million. But it’s not a done deal yet.

Juventus are in the mix and so are Newcastle, and reports suggest Todibo might be leaning towards a move to Serie A [La Gazzetta dello Sport, 7 July].

Todibo has been impressive at Nice since joining from Barcelona in 2021. At just 24, he’s already made a name for himself in Ligue 1 and earned a spot in the France squad.

Julen Lopetegui, is prioritising defensive reinforcements and has already signed Max Kilman from Wolves.

However, with competition from Juventus and Newcastle securing further reinforcements in Todibo could be more challenging than anticipated.

The Hammers will need to act quickly to make this promising defender their own.
