JUST IN: Paul Mitchell planning ‘exciting’ summer signing at Newcastle after shortlisting three forwards

Newcastle United have seen some significant changes occur over recent weeks as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.

Eddie Howe will be hoping for a much more settle season after the previous term provided him with a severe headache when it came to injuries.

The Toon did not end up making it into Europe which will provide Newcastle with a free run at the league and domestic cup competitions.

However, attention will be focused on returning to the European competitions having had a taste of Champions League football last season.

Going into the new season, there has been some significant change made off the pitch at St James’ Park as fans hope to see new additions on the pitch brought in.

Newcastle eyeing ‘exciting’ transfer as big changes made behind the scenes

Earlier this week, it was announced part-owners Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi would be selling their shares in the club and moving on.

The pair were instrumental in orchestrating the takeover from Mike Ashley back in 2021 and getting the Saudi Arabian owners through the door on Tyneside.

But that is not the only changes made this summer with Dan Ashworth moving on and Paul Mitchell coming in as his successor in the sporting director role.

And it is apparent Mitchell already has some promising plans in place to bolster the Newcastle squad.

There are three players who Newcastle are said to hold an interest in this summer as they look to add to their options at right-wing.

Those three wingers aside, the Toon are also believed to have their irons in other fires as Mitchell looks to get up and running.

Newcastle also looking to bring in another cente-back this summer

The first signing of this summer’s transfer window on Tyneside saw centre-back Lloyd Kelly arrive as a free agent from Bournemouth.

Defensive cover is something which is going to be crucial for Howe going into the new campaign with both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles suffering from significant injuries last season.

And the same report claims Newcastle are still on the lookout for another centre-back this summer having failed in their attempts to land free agent Tosin Adarabioyo.

There have been some suggestions that Newcastle could splurge on the AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw, but that could depend on what type of money is spent elsewhere this summer.
