‘You get what you deserve’ – Liam Manning’s ‘frustrated’, Mark Robins reflects on Bristol City draw and transfer update as Robins let Coventry off the hook

After Bristol City’s 2-2 draw with Coventry City, Liam Manning urged the team to stop giving up easy goals and made a suggestion that the Robins might make one more acquisition before the January transfer window closes.

Tuesday night at the Coventry Building Society Arena, Manning’s team overcame a goal behind to lead 2-1 with seven minutes remaining; however, Ellis Simms’ goal in the 85th minute forced the visitors to settle for a draw.

That night, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto’s goal against the run of play and Simms’ gift following a Max O’Leary blunder proved costly, and after the game, Manning and the Robins players showed their displeasure.

I told the boys that we had once again given up soft goals. “They should be frustrated; they’re right to be extremely irritated in there,” he said to BBC Radio Bristol.

“We have to finish the game because we lead 2-1 against you so late. Stop giving up soft goals and letting teams off the other end; we need to establish that edge.”

His team has been having trouble scoring lately; prior to the tie with the Sky Blues, they had only scored three goals in their previous eight games.

Manning went on, “We have to get over being so close. We had a lot of excellent opportunities and chances in favorable places in the first fifteen minutes, but we gave up a goal against the run of play.

“But look, you get what you deserve and what we have to do is convert our performances into more goals and be more ruthless in the final third.”

To help City score more goals, Scott Twine was brought in on loan from Burnley. However, he will be sidelined for two weeks due to a quad injury.

With time running out in the January transfer window, the Robins haven’t given up hope of adding to their forward line.

“We’re working really hard to do another one,” Manning said. “So yeah, hopefully, we can do another one before the window shuts.”
