Leicester City set for’minimum 12-point deduction’ – Former PL CEO

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Leicester City face a “minimum 12-point deduction” for their breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Foxes showed “poor judgement” by going “on the offensive” after the charge earlier this year.

Leicester were charged in March with a breach of PSR for the 2022-23 campaign and launched swift legal action against the Premier League and EFL.

The English top-flight has now confirmed that an independent commission has dismissed the challenge and a hearing will now determine a punishment.

Steve Cooper’s side, who are back in the Premier League after winning the Championship last term, have appealed the new verdict.

Leicester now face 12-point deduction after ‘poor judgement’, says Wyness

The club reported losses of £89.7million for the 2022-23 season, with top-flight sides only permitted to lose £105million over a three-year period under PSR.

“I don’t think they had much chance – they should’ve read the tea leaves a bit more.

“It’s bad news for them. It’s taken away any chance of them getting any points back because they’ve not co-operated.

“They were buying time and managed to get up into the Premier League. They’d have rather fought this from the top flight.

“This is going to be a big one. We’re looking at a minimum 12-point deduction for Leicester.

“That’s my prediction. It potentially could be more.

“As soon as they get the number, and know what they have to focus on, the better.

“Steve Cooper is the right manager to handle these off-field challenges. They’ve made a very good choice.”
