Director says he’s willing to sell £17 million-rated player to Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest are stepping up their efforts to sign another defender following the departure of Moussa Niakhate.

Earlier this month, the Senegalese defender was offloaded to Lyon as the Reds tried to comply with the latest PSR cycle.

A fee of £27 million kept Forest above the line and should ensure that a points deduction is avoided for next season.

Now, Forest have to make sure their squad is in the best possible shape ahead of next season and new signings will be sought.

Elliot Anderson has already signed from Newcastle, whilst Eric da Silva Moreira has also been given a squad number at Forest.

Now, Forest are going to try and get themselves a new defender and it would appear one club is aware of interest in one of their star men.

Udinese aware of Nottingham Forest interest in Jaka Bijol

This looks like an exciting one from a Forest perspective with Alan Shearer calling Bijol ‘outstanding’ for his efforts as Slovenia lost to Portugal on penalties at Euro 2024.

Now, Udinese director Nani has been discussing the interest in his player and expects some offers to be forthcoming.

He told Radio Sportiva: “I would be surprised if he wasn’t appreciated by Inter and other important teams. Until he was eliminated, he proved to be the best defender in the Euros. He is a complete, defensive leader, I don’t see serious amnesia, mistakes happen to everyone.

“He attracted the attention of many clubs, especially in the Premier League. It’s important for us and we would like to keep him but we have to be ready. If an offer arrives, we will discuss it.”

Bijol could be exciting Forest signing

It’s good that Forest have clearly been taking notice of the talent on display at the European Championships.

Bijol could be a useful addition to the ranks and he would certainly come with plenty of experience and also the ability to improve.

After losing Niakhate it’s important that Forest get another central defender into the club and Bijol could be available for around £17 million.

The 25-year-old has 53 caps for his country and the Slovenia defender has made 58 appearances for Serie A outfit Udinese.

These comments from the owner do look rather promising and hopefully, something can advance with this particular transfer.
