Sir Bob Murray hits his £100,000 Foundation of Light fundraising target at Sunderland

Prior to yesterday’s Black Cats Championship game against Plymouth Argyle, the former chairman of Sunderland presented the first check for the book, which he helped establish. He plans to donate 100% of the book’s proceeds to the club’s charitable foundation.

Murray added, “Giving away £100,000 has never made me happier, and I hope I have to give even more to the Foundation in the coming months.”

Since the book’s release, I’ve been astounded by the kindness of Sunderland supporters and the comments I’ve received from a wide range of individuals. I never imagined that I would actually write a book, despite years of friends making jokes about it.

The task proved to be more challenging than initially anticipated and required multiple years to finish. Time travel has its ups and downs and can be highly affective. It was difficult to recollect and relive some of the more trying times and losses in my life, but it’s wonderful to look back on some of the best moments of your life. There were moments when my wife Sue and I felt the effects of it.

The book was written with the intention of giving something back to Northeasterners. I adore this area and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who has had such a significant influence on my life.

Murray founded the Foundation of Light in 2001. It uses the power of football to inspire young people and change lives through a range of innovative and award-winning sports, health, community, and education programs. The author says he is “blown away by the response of Sunderland fans and people buying the book. Their kind-hearted response is so typical of their generosity and in doing so they are now supporting other people in the North-East who just need a little help.”
