‘Totally worth it!’ – Wrexham fan queues over 13 hours to secure ticket to see Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s side in FA Cup third round tie

A Wrexham fan says he camped out for over 13 hours to buy a ticket for the Welsh team’s FA Cup match at Shrewsbury Town in January.

The coveted competition’s trip for Wrexham to Shrewsbury saw the opening of ticket sales on Monday. Supporter of the Red Dragons Dave Keighley claims he had to wait 13.5 hours to obtain a ticket for the third round tie on January 7.

According to the supporter, head coach Phil Parkinson even stopped by the queuing crowd to speak with them, posting on social media that the “thirteen and a half hours” spent outside the [Wrexham] ticket office that night were well worth it. Justly, Parky approached everyone waiting in line and said hello.”

With a victory, Wrexham would match the remarkable journey made by the National League team the previous season to the FA Cup’s fourth round, where they forced a replay against Sheffield United and lost 3-1. It will be Shrewsbury’s biggest FA Cup test of the season after they defeated fellow League Two outfit Mansfield Town and then National League South team Yeovil Town. Shrewsbury is presently 13th in League One. However, Phil Parkinson’s club has already defeated League One opponents, having defeated Wigan in the August Carabao Cup.

Wrexham’s League Two opponents before they travel to Shrewsbury Town are Newport, Swindon, Walsall, and Barrow. Despite having a game in hand over their competitors, the Welsh squad is presently six points behind Stockport County, the league leaders.
