Commentator on Sunderland and Birmingham City’s planned striker move: “Huge potential”
Both Sunderland and Birmingham City have been linked to Sevilla youngster Musa Drammeh in recent days, according to Teamtalk.
This season, Drammeh, a 22-year-old Gambian forward, has made an impression for Sevilla Atletico, the B squad.
Although the teenage forward has not yet made his first team debut, he is reportedly close to being called up to the first team after scoring five goals and making two appearances in 13 games for the club’s reserve squad this season.
He is about to reach the last six months of his Sevilla contract, and the Blues and Black Cats are reportedly eager to sign the young player in January on a cheap deal.
“Very impressive target” – Carlton Palmer on Musa Drammeh

Palmer, who spoke exclusively to Football League World, thought Drammeh was an excellent prospect, but he did have some reservations about the forward’s lack of senior football experience.
“Birmingham and Sunderland are interested in 22-year-old Musa Drammeh from Sevilla,” Palmer stated.
“He lacks senior experience, although he has shown great promise on young teams. Drammeh is an excellent target for a bargain transfer fee in the January window because his contract expires in the summer.
“We know Sunderland like to buy young players for low fees, develop them and move them on for huge profits. “Drammeh has pace and is very direct, so would be a good fit at either club and has huge potential.”
Sunderland and Birmingham’s interest in Musa Drammeh
With the team having only scored 23 goals in 20 league games and their top scorer having only five, Birmingham City manager Wayne Rooney is looking to bolster his ranks at striker. Jay Stansfield leads the Blues in scoring right now, but he is on loan, so signing Drammeh permanently would give the team some security in case Fulham were to recall Stansfield.
Although Sunderland has several young strikers on their roster, none of them have found the back of the net this year. In spite of this, the team is currently in the play-off positions. This indicates that they could have a very good chance of qualifying for the play-offs if they have a prolific scorer on their roster.
Although it might not last for the remainder of the season, it’s a credit to the other players on the team that they’re still competitive even with attackers who haven’t scored a goal all season.
The best fit for Musa Drammeh
Considering that Sunderland is known for producing young players, it’s reasonable to argue that Drammeh would be a better match there.
In recent transfer windows, Sunderland has made a concerted effort to acquire young players with the goal of developing them and selling them for a higher price. Birmingham is in the lower half of the table, but the Black Cats are doing better and are in the running for the play-offs.
It’s reasonable to argue that Sunderland, despite their current managerial situation, are a more stable team right now and would be more receptive to a young youngster making their first steps in first-team football.
