Newcastle now reportedly have player plus cash deal turned down for Wolves star

Newcastle United’s recruitment team woke up and got to work this Saturday morning as another offer is being reported.

This time The Telegraph are reporting that Newcastle offered a cash plus player deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ English defender Max Kilman.

Kilman is another player who has been on the Magpies’ radar for a while and now it looks like they’ve made their move.

However, like West Ham before them, Newcastle’s advances for Kilman were rebuffed by Wolves after the Hammers went in with £25million bid.

Newcastle offered Elliot Anderson as part of the deal

Details on exactly what Newcastle offered are few and far between but John Percy believes it was Elliot Anderson who was the player Newcastle offered up as part of the deal.

This will likely be a huge head-scratcher for Newcastle fans who rate Anderson very highly, especially given that he is one of our own.

Eddie Howe is a huge admirer of the 21-year-old so the fact that he’d green-light a swap deal with one of his most promising players makes little sense.

Between offering up Anderson and potentially selling Yankuba Minteh you have to wonder what the chuff is going on at Newcastle at the minute.

This is another example of why PSR needs to get in the bin

Kilman is undoubtedly a good player and was a huge part of Gary O’Neil’s Wolves side last season. The 27-year-old centre-back has even flirted with the England side on several occasions but never actually made it into the squad.

Last year Wolves rejected a £30million bid by Napoli for Kilman and convinced him to sign a new contract, so it’s no wonder they are batting away bids of £25million. It’s believed they value him at around £40million with his former club, Maidenhead entitled to somewhere between 15-20% of that as part of his sell-on clause.

We’re not against Newcastle signing Max Kilman, we could surely do a lot worse, but sacrificing another one of our most promising youngsters as part of the deal? No thanks.

This is all down to Profit and Sustainability that we’re even considering letting all this young talent go so early, mind. It’s an absolute farce. That is of course, if there is any nugget of truth in this at all.
