Midfielder Joshua Kimmich has opened up on his future in Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has opened up on his future in Germany amid links to Manchester City and Barcelona.

Joshua Kimmich has been a mainstay for Bayern Munich since he was handed his debut in the Bavarian first team under Pep Guardiola.

The German has firmly established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe but his future in Munich is understood to be unclear.

HITC reported earlier this month that Manchester City were eyeing a move for the German midfielder in a bid to reunite Guardiola with the German.

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona are also understood to be keen on Kimmich this summer.

Kimmich featured for Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany in a dominant 5-1 victory over Scotland and the 28-year-old is set for an important tournament for Die Mannschaft.

“The situation is absolutely clear,” Kimmich told German outlet SZ. “I have a contract with FC Bayern until 2025, so it’s not mainly up to me to be active right now”.

“My focus is solely on the European Championship, and after that there will be a conversation.”

Kimmich is understood to have grown unsettled in Bavaria under Thomas Tuchel but the German has now been replaced by former Burnley manager Vincent Kompany.

It is unclear if this has altered Kimmich’s view but the interest from Barcelona and City remains for the German midfielder.

City keen on reuniting Kimmich with Guardiola

Kimmich, who has just 12 months left to run on his contract in Germany, is attracting interest from City, who are understood to be keen on adding a midfielder this summer.

Guardiola remains a huge fan of the player whilst Kimmich regards the Spaniard as one of the biggest influences on his career so a reunion seems like it could be a possibility this summer.

Kimmich scored just one goal and provided six assists in the Bundesliga in the previous campaign as Bayer Leverkusen won the title at a canter.
