The only team in the Premier League this year that hasn’t lost a single point from a winning position is Villa.

Preview of the Match

Aston Villa will be looking to stay up with Manchester City and Arsenal in the Premier League title chase when they host Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday. Villa had a fantastic week of results last week, winning both of those teams.

With a 1-0 victory over Arsenal on Saturday at Villa Park, Unai Emery was able to claim bragging rights over his former team. Eddie Nketiah’s late goal was helped by Kai Havertz’s handball in a close-range altercation between the former Chelsea attacker and Villa goalkeeper Emiliano MartĂnez, which sparked a lot of VAR-fueled discussion after the game.

The win on Saturday came after a 1-0 home victory over Pep Guardiola’s Man City, where Leon Bailey’s deflected goal defeated the reigning Premier League champions. Given that Villa is the only club in the Premier League this season to have won all 11 of their games in which they have taken the lead, taking the lead could be crucial once more in the capital.

Brentford vs Aston Villa Prediction

For the first time in Villa’s history, Emery became the fifth manager in the Premier League to win 15 straight home games while in charge of a team with the victory over Arsenal. The other four—Roberto Mancini, JĂĽrgen Klopp, Guardiola, and Alex Ferguson—have all taken home the championship. However, the Villa manager’s focus must now shift away from home as, going into Matchday 17, the Villans behind both Liverpool and Arsenal by two goals.

Regarding the team, Bertrand TraorĂ©, Tyrone Mings, and Emiliano BuendĂa will all be out of Emery’s starting lineup owing to longer-term ailments, while Douglas Luiz and Lucas Digne will be a painful absence for Sunday’s kickoff due to their combined total of five yellow cards this season. Though McGinn, a Scotland international, and former Brentford striker Ollie Watkins are two of five players who have combined for a league-high three winning goals this season, Emery can still rely on them ahead of this weekend’s Premier League games.

A hit that causes injuries Last time out, Brentford lost 1-0 to struggling Sheffield United at Bramall Lane as a superb James McAtee goal gave the Blades much-needed three points. After losing to Liverpool, Arsenal, and Brighton and winning just once in their previous five games, Thomas Frank’s team was in eleventh in the league standings prior to MD 17.

The main scorer Bryan Mbeumo, Kristoffer Ajer, Kevin Schade, Aaron Hickey, and Rico Henry are all absent due to injury, which has severely hindered Frank. For the Villa match, Nathan Collins and Mathias Jensen might make a comeback, but Brentford will be without suspended hero Ivan Toney, who is back in training but cannot play again until January 17 due to a gambling ban.

Neal Maupay, a French forward who has scored two goals and assisted another in three of his previous four Premier League home games after defeating Luton and West Ham and providing an assist against Burnley, has flourished in Toney’s absence. But none of the teams the 27-year-old striker has played against more frequently in the Premier League than Villa; he will be eager to snap an eight-game losing streak against Emery’s team when play gets underway at Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday.

Burnley versus Aston Villa Head-to-Head

Brentford will fancy their chances despite Emery’s team being in perfect form. They have only lost one of their last ten league games against Villa (W4 D5). Last season, Brentford lost 4-0 at Villa Park to Danny Ings, who has since joined West Ham, and Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins.

In the previous century, Villa won all three of their away league matches against Brentford; but, in the current century, they have lost all five of their visits (D1 L4). In the same league matchup the previous season, these two teams split the points in a 1-1 tie as Douglas Luiz overturned an Ivan Toney goal.

But under Emery, Villa has won all six of their Premier League games played in London (W4 D2). Their most recent loss was at Fulham (3-0) in October 2022, when Steven Gerrard was playing.

They have triumphed over Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in their last two meetings in the capital, but their three previous trips to the first flight in February 1990 were unsuccessful.

Recent Form

Brentford has struggled recently, dropping as many as 18 of their previous 18 Premier League games, including four of their past five (W1). They haven’t lost three straight league games since April of last year, but they have lost their last two, against Brighton and Sheffield United.

Frank’s troops still have their home comforts, though. Since the beginning of the previous season, Brentford has only lost four of their 27 Premier League home games (W13 D10), however two of those losses have occurred in their last five games at the Gtech Community Stadium, where Everton and Arsenal have both won.

The only clubs to defeat Villa this season in the league are Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, and Newcastle United. Villa is still a surprising candidate for the top division title.

Remarkably, Emery has managed to oversee 92 Premier League games without a single one ending in a draw. This is a record for any manager. With 114 games played between May 1999 and May 2002, only former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has ever achieved a longer streak without such a result in the tournament.
