Wolves’ Matheus Cunha breaks silence on Manchester United transfer rumours

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks and has now addressed the speculation

Wolves sensation Matheus Cunha has expressed his pride over the buzz connecting him with a switch to Manchester United, saying it’s a “real honour” but also noting “you never know” what the future holds.

Mirror Football reports that the Red Devils kept a keen eye on Cunha last term as he bagged 12 goals in the Premier League from 32 appearances, and he’s reportedly right up there on their list of candidates to step in for Anthony Martial, whose time at the club came to an end following his contract conclusion.

Cunha is exactly the sort of talent that new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe envisions at Old Trafford. A video doing the rounds on social media shows the 25 year old chatting about a potential move to United with pals.

Quizzed on whether he’ll be donning the United shirt, Cunha remarked: “You know it’s a real honour to have your name linked to Manchester United. One of the biggest clubs in the world. But I’m happy at Wolves.”

He added, “If I’m lucky, I play another good season, but the window is open, you never know.”,

This isn’t the first instance of Cunha commenting on the United rumours, having previously told Globo Esporte: “Whenever I can, I come along [to Botafogo-PB game

“I always want to show that (the affection) is reciprocated. Then we see that talk (Manchester United). But I’m very happy at Wolves. My focus is on resting and making the most of my time with my family. I’m very happy at Wolves. The focus now is on having better seasons and helping the club. God willing, I’ll continue on this path.”

Cunha secured his Wolves spot in January 2023 on loan from Atletico Madrid, followed by a permanent ÂŁ44million transfer at the season’s end. His performance has caught the eye of Wolves’ skipper Max Kilman, particularly noticing Cunha’s growth during his first full stint at Molineux.

“He’s been fabulous,” Kilman praised regarding Cunha earlier this season adding, “There’s added pressure on our forwards because we don’t have many and you could see in the celebrations just how much it meant to everyone.”

“He’s a really funny guy and sees the world differently! He’s a really nice guy and on the pitch you can see his character. He’s been phenomenal and has really kicked on this season.”
