West Ham ‘Set to offer’ relegated star PL return with summer transfer swoop – view

West Ham United are set to offer Burnley defender Maxime Esteve a chance to remain in the Premier League this summer, according to the Sunday People.

The newspaper reported in its print edition (9 June, page 57) that the Frenchman’s loan spell at Turf Moor from Montpellier has now been made permanent, despite the Clarets relegation from the top flight.

Everton are also interested in the 22-year-old who is part of France’s squad for this summer’s Olympic games and they view him as a potential replacement if Jarrad Branthwaite was to depart Goodison Park this summer.

If a big-money bid from a Premier League side were to arrive at Turf Moor this summer, Burnley are unlikely to deny Esteve the chance to move away.

Will West Ham United sign Burnley ace Maxime Esteve during the summer transfer window?

Julen Lopetegui is keen to add to his West Ham squad at the London Stadium as quickly as possible and while no new names yet may officially be through the door, the Hammers are working to complete several new signings.

A winger is believed to be a priority for the former Real Madrid manager, but he is also keen to reinforce his backline which shouldn’t come as a surprise following the Hammers’ poor end to the campaign defensively.

Esteve may have been relegated last term, but he impressed during his loan spell at Turf Moor with some reasonable displays. With the right coaching and management, the 22-year-old could be a good Premier League player.

As speculation swirls around both Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd’s futures at the London Stadium and with Angelo Ogbonna’s exit already confirmed, the Irons cannot waste too much time before adding to their defence.

Hopefully, they will test the waters with a reasonable bid for Esteve’s services. Given Everton’s financial situation, you would like to think the Hammers could outbid Sean Dyche’s side.
