Lineker & Shearer react to what West Ham fans did to Moyes yesterday as footage shown

Gary Lineker has reacted to David Moyes and his London Stadium send-off on Match of the Day after West Ham United beat Luton Town 3-1 on Saturday 11 May.

After the news he would depart at the end of the season, fans knew this was Moyes’ last game as Hammers manager.

Despite going one down, his side came back to win thanks to goals from James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek and George Earthy.

Speaking on Match of the Day (10 May) as footage of Moyes’ send-off from the fans was shown, Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards were all complimentary of the West Ham manager.

Lineker said: “David Moyes, he got a lovely reception from the West Ham fans at the end and thoroughly deserved, surely?”

Continuing on, Richards added: “He’s a gentleman. Three years of European football, he’s leaving them in a better place than when he started so I think he deserves all the respect.

“Of course, some of the fans want to see some more attacking football at times but in terms of stability, I think he’s been excellent.”

Shearer shared the sentiment saying: “He deserved that reception at the end there. Only Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have managed more games in the Premier League. He’s done a wonderful job at West Ham.”

How good has David Moyes been with West Ham United?

There was never any doubt that the Scot was an experienced manager and he has shown that with what he has achieved.

Taking a relegation-threatened side to consistent European finishes in the Premier League is no mean feat given the quality throughout.

Add to this the Conference League win in Prague last season and there is no doubt how successful Moyes has been with the Hammers.

It could be said that he is at the top of his game as a manager right now and it may prove to be a mistake in letting him go.

There has been some criticism of his tactical approach which can see West Ham opt to play more defensively at times.

The fans want a manager who wants to play attacking football to make visits to the London Stadium more exciting.

Who knows, maybe Moyes will be back in the dugout to help stabilise them if the new manager isn’t as successful.
