‘There was no escape’ – Wolves star says he was ‘forced to join’ as exit imminent

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fábio Silva has dramatically revealed he was “almost forced” to join the club back in 2020.

Things haven’t worked out for Silva at Molineux since he arrived from Porto for a whopping £35 million. The now 21-year-old joined as a teenager with a mightily high ceiling but just five goals and six assists in 72 games label him a huge failure.

Loan moves to RSC Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven and Rangers have revitalised Silva’s form somewhat but the striker has no future with Wanderers. It was doomed from the very beginning, it appears, as the striker has now opened up in a revealing interview.

“I knew it wasn’t the time and I had no intention of going to Wolves at the time. I wanted to stay at Porto for another one or two years,” Silva sensationally said.

“I was almost forced. They told me that if I didn’t go, I would play for the B team and I wouldn’t help the club because their finances were in bad shape. There was no escape.

“There were other interested parties, but everything was geared towards Wolves. It would make more money, but in football things happen behind the scenes that you don’t control. It was a good deal for everyone but me,” Silva said.

Wolves ready to let Silva depart

This summer could spell the end of the nightmare as Silva is reportedly set to leave the West Midlands for good. Reports in Portugal suggest Rangers won’t attempt to sign the attacker permanently but there are bound to be other suitors keen on unlocking his potential.

With 12 goals in 22 appearances for the Portugal Under-21 side, there’s certainly an outstanding player in Silva. The striker has also been popular everywhere he’s been other than Wolves. The speed of his departure just depends on how lucrative the bids are as Wanderers won’t let him go for mere pennies.
