Sheffield United make move to sign Nottingham Forest star this summer

Sheffield United have registered their interest in signing Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall, sources have told Football Insider.

Forest have told the 27-year-old he is free to find a new club this summer after he spent the second half of last season on loan with Turkish side Besiktas.

Forest are on the brink of their allowable profit and sustainability (PSR) losses heading into the summer and are expected to offload a number of players to balance their books.

Worrall is likely to leave the City Ground in the coming weeks despite his contract running until 2026.

Joe Worrall move on the cards as Sheffield United register interest

The Nottingham-born centre-back has spent the past 13 years with Forest after joining the club’s academy in 2011.

After taking in loan spells at Dagenham & Redbridge and Rangers, Worrall went on to become a mainstay in the backline at the City Ground and helped the club secure their long-awaited return to the Premier League two years ago.

The former England youth international was named club captain in 2022, but he saw his opportunities restricted following the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo in December.

Worrall is now expected to leave the Premier League side permanently this summer on the back of his loan spell at Besiktas, where he made just six starts over the past few months.

Sheffield United have registered their interest in signing him as Chris Wilder looks to bring in defensive reinforcements following his side’s relegation to the Championship.
